Help Build A Food Forest in Lincoln

  • Meadowlark Coffee & Espresso 1624 South Street Lincoln, Nebraska, 68502 (map)

Proceeds to go to support an exciting project on the south side of Lincoln, the Southern Heights Food Forest. As a collaborative effort between Community C.R.O.P.S., Nature Explore, and Southern Heights Presbyterian Church, the goal of the Southern Heights Food Forest is to develop a publicly accessible space focused on food production and outdoor education that inspires, welcomes and transforms the Lincoln community.

The “Southern Heights Food Forest” will include a variety of elements that will change the way we eat, play and interact as a community. The 2-acre space will include Nebraska’s first “Food Forest”, a Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom, Urban Agriculture plots, and an expansion of the existing community gardening plots on site. By creating a dynamic space that is based around the value of food and the outdoors, we hope to establish a catalyst for grassroots community development – where children can play safely, where we learn about the value and possibilities of food, and most importantly where meaningful, lifelong relationships are built within the Lincoln community.
