Why Volunteer at Church?
You might be wondering, "I attend church nearly every Sunday and religious holidays and pay my tithes—so why should I volunteer?" That's a great question!
Volunteering at church is an incredible opportunity to deepen your connections with fellow members of your community. When you take the time to volunteer, you not only get to know the people you’re working alongside but also form meaningful relationships with others who share your faith.
Moreover, volunteering allows you to engage more fully with the church and its mission. As you participate in various activities, you’ll find that you start to care more about the events and initiatives you’re involved in. You'll gain a greater understanding of what it means to be part of the church body, and you’ll also witness firsthand the positive impact your contributions can have.
When we volunteer, we’re not just helping ourselves; we’re serving our entire congregation and the community at large. Whether it's welcoming newcomers, teaching kids, or lending a hand wherever needed, our efforts are acts of love that ultimately honor God. It’s a beautiful way to express your faith in action!
In essence, volunteers are the heartbeat of a thriving church. By stepping up to serve, you’re playing a vital role in creating a loving and supportive environment for everyone. So, consider joining in—your time and talents are truly needed and appreciated!

Dominican Republic Mission Trip
We are partnering with First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island for a mission trip to the Dominican Republic in February 2025. Flights are booked and travel expenses are due soon. There are many ways you can help SHPC Members.
If you would like to help with travel expenses, please contact the office.
Those attending would like to help the children in the Dominican Republic with school supplies. The cost is too prohibitive to mail supplies. Instead, let the office know you would like to make a monetary donation for school supplies. The SHPC Members will bring the donated funds and purchase the supplies there. This will help purchase more items (and not pay for postage) and it will help their economy also.
SHPC and First Pres. would like to have a BBQ for the DM community before they return. Cost will be approximately $350. Please let the office know if you would like to contribute.
Attend our lunch and learn potluck on January 5, 2025 to learn more about the trip from those volunteering to go. We will also have an opportunity after they return to hear their stories and watch a PowerPoint.
Think about attending our next Mission Trip!
