The Gathering Place – provides both meals and day shelter for the homeless and poor who live in our area. The Gathering Place has been the place for a solid meal for Lincoln's hungry for almost 30 years. It was established back in 1982 by Ruth Thone, the wife of former Nebraska Governor, Charles Thone. On any given night, Monday thru Friday, The Gathering Place feeds a hundred hungry people. Over the past 4 years, The Gathering Place has given away more than 100,000 free meals. SHPC provides on-going financial support as well as preparing and serving an evening meal on every fifth Tuesday of the year. In 2011, the dates are: March 29, May 31, August 30, and November 29.
Habitat for Humanity – facilitates home ownership for low income families through constructing the homes in partnership with the intended owners. SHPC provides financial support in addition to periodically providing lunch for volunteer builders. These meals have been a great encouragement for those swinging the hammers and painting the ways.
Center for People in Need – provides comprehensive services and opportunities to support low income, high needs families and individuals as they strive to lift themselves out of poverty and achieve economic self-sufficiency.
SHPC concentrates on collecting both cash donations and non-perishable foods on the 1st Sunday of each month. A shopping card is placed outside the main entrance to the sanctuary to receive donations.
SHPC also provides personal care products such as small soap, shampoo, lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorants and dental floss. The hotel sizes of these are easy to distribute to those who need them. A collection basket is in the fellowship hall.
Community Garden – our garden plot which is prepared for members of the community who wish to grow food and flowers. SHPC provides the land, the tilling, the water, and some garden tools. The community crops program accepts applications for plots which usually cost about $50 per season on a sliding fee scale. If you have any good used or new garden tools you would like to donate, please contact the church office. We are in need of: shovels, hoes, spades, rakes, forks, trowels, pruning shears, wheel barrows, and watering cans.

Lincoln Literacy Council – provides literacy and language instruction. Many of the persons served are immigrants. SHPC provides both volunteers and financial support.
The Lighthouse – is a community-based after school program for youth, grades six through twelve. They provide a safe, supervised and structured environment for teens to hang out with friends, receive tutoring assistance, play games, enjoy a home cooked meal, belong to clubs and much more! SHPC provides financial support.
Friendship Home –exists to support, shelter and advocate for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. SHPC provides financial support. In addition, at Christmas, gifts and food for needy residents are collected.
People’s City Mission – is Lincoln’s temporary shelter for the homeless. SHPC provides financial support. During the Christmas season, we also encourage members to decorate a “Mitten Tree” with gifts of hats, scarves, mittens, and gloves for those who need warm clothing in cold weather.
